Overstrand Executive Mayor, Dr Annelie Rabie, is proud to announce that the Overstrand Municipality has received a 10th consecutive clean audit opinion from the Auditor-General South Africa.
“We are indeed extremely thankful and proud, as this is no mean feat,” said Mayor Rabie. She continued by thanking the previous Mayor, Alderman Dudley Coetzee, for his leadership and guidance during his tenure in the audit year under review. She also expressed her gratitude to the Joint Audit and Performance Audit Committee (JPAC), as well as the management team, for their continued support and diligence in ensuring good governance and financial prudence.
The audit process is also a time for inward reflection, as during the audit, a number of internal control gaps and reporting challenges were identified. These challenges need to find space in the audit action plan going forward, but more importantly also, there must be tangible links between clean audit outcomes and the lived experience by the citizens on the ground relating to effective and measurable service delivery.
“While we can be proud of this achievement, we are aware of the economic and social realities in our municipality, and the country as a whole for that matter. The main challenge going forward is to tighten controls to limit improper behaviors and provide affordable services within the constraints of a limited budget,” the Mayor added.
Finally, the residents of Overstrand can be assured that the municipal finances are controlled and managed appropriately and once again appreciation is expressed for the support of the Council, Municipal Manager, CFO and all other responsible staff in achieving this milestone.
